Elgin has welcomed a significant addition to its sporting facilities with the opening of a new £1.63 million four-court indoor tennis centre at Moray Sports Centre. This state-of-the-art centre marks a major milestone in the enhancement of Elgin’s community sports infrastructure.
The tennis centre, which saw its first players in early July, is a result of a collaborative effort between Moray Sports Foundation, sportscotland, the LTA, LTA Tennis Foundation, and Tennis Scotland through the Transforming Scottish Indoor Tennis (TSIT) fund.
With four state-of-the-art tennis courts featuring a premium acrylic surface, the facility is designed to cater to players of all levels, from beginners to seasoned match-play enthusiasts. It promises to boost participation in tennis among people of all ages and skill levels. The centre offers ample court time, coaching programmes, and competitive opportunities for those who wish to take their game to the next level.
“What sets us apart is the year-round availability of tennis in Moray. No matter the weather, you can enjoy the game you love. On those warm and sunny days, our retractable sides allow fresh air to breeze through, creating an inviting and comfortable playing environment within our covered courts.”
Iain Stokes, CEO of Moray Sports Foundation, expressed his excitement: “With the country in the grips of Wimbledon fever, we’re delighted to have opened a state-of-the-art indoor tennis facility at Moray Sports Centre – allowing all those inspired by what they see on TV to get on the court themselves with a racket in hand. Having this calibre of indoor tennis provision in Elgin is a real boost for the north of Scotland, setting the region up to inspire and nurture the next generation of great tennis talent.”
Forbes Dunlop, Chief Executive of sportscotland, highlighted the broader impact of the new centre: “This facility will improve access to tennis in Moray markedly and provide an environment for people to enjoy the sport, whatever level they aspire to, for years to come. We will continue to work with Tennis Scotland, The LTA, and local partners to ensure Scottish tennis has a bright future.”
Blane Dodds, Chief Executive of Tennis Scotland, commended the collaborative effort behind the project: “The opening of the new indoor tennis centre in Moray is another major milestone in the transformation of facilities around Scotland. Each partner has worked tirelessly to reach this stage, and my congratulations go to Moray Sports Foundation and everyone else involved in the project now that this stunning centre has opened for the tennis community in the north of Scotland.”
The Moray Sports Centre on Linkwood Road, which houses this new facility, also offers a well-equipped gym, sports hall, and fitness classes, all aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of the local community. It’s great to see Elgin and the wider Moray region benefitting from top-notch sporting facilities.
