Scottish Chamber Orchestra: Summer in Italy

The Scottish Chamber Orchestra is set to captivate audiences with their Summer Tour 2023, aptly named “Summer in Italy,” a concert that will showcase the group’s incredible musical prowess, with a blend of Italian flair and Mediterranean summer sunshine. The event will feature Principal Conductor Maxim Emelyanychev and SCO soloists Maximiliano Martín and Nikita Naumov.
The programme will open with Rossini’s Overture to The Barber of Seville, a composition that exudes fun and energy, followed by Bottesini’s Gran Duo, which will give both soloists the opportunity to showcase their outstanding virtuosity. The symphony continues with Rossini’s Introduction, Theme, and Variations for Clarinet and Orchestra, which highlights the exceptional skill of Maximiliano Martín, and Bottesini’s Fantasia ‘Lucia di Lammermoor’ for Double Bass and Orchestra, which spotlights the technical virtuosity of Nikita Naumov.
The programme concludes with Mendelssohn’s ‘Italian’ Symphony, a piece inspired by the composer’s trip to Italy in 1830, and one of his warmest and most evocative symphonies. The concert is an excellent opportunity for audiences to experience the culture, climate, and countryside of Italy through the masterful musical interpretation of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.
Conductor Maxim Emelyanychev is a talented musician with a background in piano, harpsichord, cornet, and conducting. He joined the Scottish Chamber Orchestra in 2018 and became its principal conductor in 2019. Maximiliano Martín, the Principal Clarinet of the SCO, is one of the most exciting and charismatic musicians of his generation, while Nikita Naumov, the talented double bassist, has played as a guest principal with many of the world’s finest orchestras.
