Travel to Elgin is relatively easy – the city is well connected to national road and rail networks. Elgin is situated in the north-east of Scotland. Elgin sits five miles inland on the south coast of the Moray Firth and between Inverness to the west and Aberdeen in the east.

How to get to Elgin by car
If you are you are travelling from the south by road, follow the A9 north of Perth, and turn right onto the A95 after passing Aviemore. This will take you through breathtaking scenery down the Spey Valley, through Aberlour and Craigellachie follow the A941 and onto Rothes before you reach Elgin.
From Inverness or Aberdeen, follow the A96, which passes through the centre of Elgin.
Does Elgin have a train station?
Yes. Elgin train station is fully serviced by the Inverness to Aberdeen line both of which are linked to the national rail network. For fares and timetable information visit Scotrail, the national train operator.
Does Elgin have an airport?
Elgin doesn’t have its own airport.
Inverness Airport (INV) is around forty minutes drive away, with domestic and a few international links. A service is available which connects Inverness Airport to Elgin by bus. In February 2023 the new Inverness Airport Train Station opened and you can now take a train between Elgin and Inverness Airport.
Aberdeen Airport (ABZ) at Dyce is 6o miles to the east on the outskirts of Aberdeen. The airport is served by a train station at Dyce which connects to Elgin.
Does Elgin have a bus station?
Yes. There is a bus station in the centre of Elgin. Stagecoach buses run frequent services locally throughout the area and to Inverness and Aberdeen where connections are available.
